Mission and Values

The Foundation was created to support gifted children and to preserve the cultural heritage of Russia. Gathered here are the principles on which its work has rested since 1994.

Mission

The Foundation’s guiding principle

“Children must know that they are loved.”
Vladimir Spivakov, founder and President of the Foundation

The Vladimir Spivakov International Charitable Foundation is a non-profit organisation founded on 30 May 1994. The idea was born during the maestro’s tours through the remote regions of Russia: he saw how talented children flourished thanks to devoted teachers, yet lacked the means to develop their gift.

The Foundation’s founder expresses its philosophy in simple words: “If each of us does but one good deed, the world will become more perfect, and life brighter and happier.” From this idea grew dozens of programmes: master classes and concerts, named scholarships and material assistance, competitions and festivals, support for music schools, social programmes for orphaned children and children with disabilities, aid to hospitals and the funding of medical treatment.

Today the Foundation helps talented children develop their abilities and take part in creative life — in music, choreography, and the visual and circus arts. Each month around twenty major Foundation projects take place around the world.

Values

What the Foundation’s work rests on

Equal opportunities

A child’s gift should not depend on where that child was born. The Foundation’s geography spans the entire country — from Moscow, home to its headquarters, to Sakhalin. Regional academies operate in Krasnodar Krai, Tatarstan, Tver, Bashkortostan and on Sakhalin.

Attention to every child

The Foundation supports the SOS Children’s Villages in Tomilino and Otradnoye, gives concerts in orphanages and hospitals, and runs social programmes for orphaned children and children with disabilities. Children with special health needs are also invited to take part in the “Light of Hope” competition.

Mastery and mentorship

Support is not only funding, but also a professional environment. Master classes given by distinguished musicians and teachers are held in piano, violin, voice, wind and percussion instruments, bayan and harp — in the regions of Russia, at venues abroad and online.

Continuity and partnership

The “Moscow Meets Friends” festival has been held without interruption since 2004, and the educational programme “Children for Children” since 2002–2003. Since 2023 the Foundation has worked with the Presidential Grants Foundation and the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives; among its partners are Aeroflot, Sber, concert halls and philharmonic societies.
